Transportation Minister Todd Stone has officially stated that the Province of BC will not consider cancelling the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay ferry route. Recent concerns regarding a proposed cancellation of the route by BC Ferries have been squashed, despite the Province originally voicing an openness to the idea. The lobbying of Vancouver Island MLA Michelle Stidwell and MLA Don McRae are said to have heavily influenced his change of heart.

In other transportation news, the proposed private passenger ferry service between Vancouver & Nanaimo has received endorsement from Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson. This represents the most significant city-level support yet for the Island Ferry Service Ltd. project. This kind of endorsement will have a positive influence on the project's viability in the eyes of the Federal Government, whom the project is relying on for a grant to help with financing.
