(Nanaimo, BC - March 16, 2015) Local superstar RE/MAX Realtor and DNBIA President, John Cooper, was awarded Vancouver Island’s ‘Top 20 Under 40’ award in Courtenay on Saturday night. Selected from a pool of 146 outstanding nominees and 100 finalists, Cooper was celebrated for his exceptional achievement in business, leadership, and community contribution.
John’s real estate team, Cooper McLintock & Associates, was recognized as one of the Top 100 RE/MAX teams in Western Canada for 2014. This is a rare accomplishment in a community the size of Nanaimo, with most top-producing teams coming from significantly larger urban markets like Calgary and Vancouver.
John has also served as president of the Downtown Nanaimo Business Improvement Association for the past four years and has been a board member since 2009, in addition to involvement with various other local committees and events. John is passionate about contributing his time and expertise to Nanaimo’s vibrancy and economic development.
John explains, “I make my living selling the Vancouver Island lifestyle to the world, so to take time out of my life to help make the island better is an obvious priority to me. Why wouldn’t you do that in my business? A strong community and thriving economy benefits everyone.”
John is also an advocate for safety and professionalism in combat sports. As one of only five people in BC certified to referee professional mixed martial arts (MMA), John has judged and refereed events for the World Series of Fighting, broadcast on NBC into 33 million homes, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) at GM Place in Vancouver, broadcast on pay-per-view to millions of viewers around the world.
The ‘Top 20 Under 40’ award celebrates Vancouver Island’s best & brightest new business leaders. Past winners have included locals like Levi Sampson, Andre Sullivan and Mira Laurence. John is humbled by the recognition and is proud to join the ranks of so many dynamic individuals.
