With 575 new housing units nearing completion in Nanaimo this year, home construction is up an average of 38.6% since 2013. Detached single family homes have had the biggest numbers, with 41.5% more builds than in 2013. These numbers are an indication of a strong, growing local economy in Central Vancouver Island, and point to population growth and an increase in employment. Experts expect to see the numbers continue to rise in 2015.
